Alpacas
(Vicugna Pacos)

Our Alpacas joined us at the farm in 2020 and have become a farm favourite with visitors.
We have four male Alpacas at the farm, Eddie and Alfie were the first to come and live with us and they have recently been joined by Thunderbolt and Stargaze. Alpacas are herd animals and like to hangout in groups and can often be seen running around, as guardian animals they also like hanging out with other animals such as sheep and goats. In the Winter months their fleeces grow to make them look stocky, but once sheared in the spring you can see that they are quite slender animals.

Our Alpacas are very intelligent and can be walked around the farm and have started to remember the route! If you see our Alpacas out on a walk keep a close eye on them – they communicate to each other via body language (including tail and ear movements) and making noises like a light human.

Alpacas shouldn’t be confused with Llamas, they are not the same. Alpacas and Llamas are related like cousins, with Llamas being a lot bigger in size.

Where can you see our Alpacas?

You’ll find our Alpacas living between the Silver barn and on the field walk.

A WPF Secret

Each year our alpacas have their coat sheared and their fleeces are available to buy in our giftshop.
Some people say you can make up to 4 sweaters from one fleece – but we haven’t tried that ourselves yet!
