Armadillo
(Euphractus sexcinctus)

Armadillo is a Spanish word meaning “little armored one” and refers to the bony plates that cover the back, head, legs, and tail. They have a snout shaped face with small eyes. Their eyesight isn’t very good and will be fuzzy and colourless, in bright light their eyesight gets worse.

We have 2 armadillos living with us on the farm, one boy called Ahmed and one girl called Matilda.

You find out more about our Armadillos by getting up close to them in an Armadillo encounter.

They like to stay warm and on cooler days will curl up under their heat lamp. If you can’t spot the armadillos in their pen, take a look at their small house boxes as they love to burrow inside these and sometimes sleep for up to 16 hours a day if they get really cosy!

Although small, armadillos are strong and mighty, their front legs are great for digging.

Where can you see our Armadillos?

Our armadillo house is in the silver barn with their outside area near the events lawn and lake.
