Macaws
(Ara Militaras and Ara ararauna)
We have two types of Macaw living with us at the farm. A blue and Yellow macaw called Missy and a Military macaw called Mica. Both of them are very loud, can copy human speech and love a sing and a dance. Keep an eye out for our farmers singing to them – especially farmer Gemma.
Macaws are part of the Parrot family and can be told apart from other species by the bare patches on their face. Why not compare them to the Love birds who live nearby?
Macaws are the biggest type of parrot and are very proud of their beautiful colours, you can often see them grooming each other to make sure they stay looking smart. Not only are their wings colourful to look at but they are strong and can carry a macaw for 15 miles of flying time a day.
Where can you see our Macaws?
Our Macaws live in an aviary in the Silver Barn. They also have an outdoor aviary near to goat mountain.

Macaws originate from the rainforests of South America.

Macaws eat seeds, nuts, berries and fruit in the wild.
Size
They are the largest type of parrot and can grow to be 3ft tall with a wingspan of 5ft.
Population in the World
The population of macaws is currently decreasing. With the reduction in their preferred habitat being one of the main contributing factors.
There is thought to be only 2,000 – 7,000 Military macaws in the world.
Conservation Status
Blue and Yellow – Least concern on the IUCN red list
Military – Vulnerable on the IUCN red list

Animal Encounters
Our Animal Encounters are a great way to get up-close and personal to your favourite farm animal for an interative 30 minute experience for your group of up to 6 people.
You will need to purchase individual daytime admission tickets if you wish to stay on the farm after your encounter.
Animal Sponsorship
Our animal sponsorship is a great way to support the Farm. We have 3 different levels of sponsorship available for a selection of our animals which is valid for a year from purchase.
Each animal sponsorship comes with its own certificate and you also get the opportunity to visit us here at the Farm.
